New squabs for a window seat, sofa, daybed or outdoor bench, cut to your exact shape, not a rectangle that nearly fits. If it’s an existing piece being re-covered rather than a loose cushion replaced, that’s our Furniture page; if it’s for a boat, that’s Boats.
Made to a card or paper pattern taken from the seat itself, so the finished squab sits flush into every corner and against every curve instead of overhanging or falling short.
Replacement seat and back cushions for a sofa, daybed or bench, in the same or a new fabric, without re-covering the frame underneath.
Squabs for outdoor lounges, deck benches and patio furniture in fabric and foam built to live outside, not standard indoor upholstery pressed into outdoor use.
Curved bay windows, angled bench ends, boat-style corners and anything else a standard cushion size was never going to fit.
An outdoor squab needs different foam to an indoor one, not just different fabric. Standard upholstery foam is closed-cell enough to trap rain and condensation, so a squab left out overnight stays wet for days and starts to smell from the inside out — the same failure the Boats page warns about, and it happens just as fast on a deck as it does in a cockpit. Anything that lives outside gets open-cell, quick-drying foam as standard; we keep the denser, softer foams for squabs that stay indoors.
An indoor squab and an outdoor one solve different problems — one has to feel right under you every day, the other has to survive rain, UV and being left out over winter. We ask where it’s going before we quote the fabric or the foam, not after.
A full set of squabs pattern-made to fit a curved bay window, in a fabric matched to the room.
Quick-drying foam and outdoor-rated fabric, made to size for a set of deck loungers.
Seat and bolster cushions replaced on a daybed, fitted to the frame rather than bought off the shelf.
No, reupholstering re-covers the whole piece, frame and all, in place. A squab is a separate cushion we make from scratch or replace, which is usually the faster and cheaper job if it’s the cushion rather than the frame that’s worn. If you actually need the piece itself re-covered, that’s our Furniture & Repairs page.
Yes. We take a card or paper pattern directly from the seat, bench or window recess, so the fit comes from the actual space rather than a copy of a cushion that may already have been the wrong shape.
Almost always the foam. Standard indoor foam traps water instead of draining it, so a cushion left out overnight stays heavy and starts to smell. The fix is open-cell, quick-drying foam, the same material we use on boat squabs, see the note above.
Yes, within reason, we’ll check it’s a weight and stability suited to a seat cushion before we cut it, the same as we do on furniture work.
We do, but that’s a marine-specific job with its own foam, fabric and thread requirements. See our Boats page rather than this one.
